Down in Mayo on holidays and I was out for a drive around the Killary Fjord, when I saw a sign for the Aasleagh Falls and stopped to take a look.
Parking
A little camper van was parked opposite a stile that leads to the waterfall, and I pulled in behind it. It’s a small layby on the R335, but further up there’s a much larger and safer space for car parking that I didn’t see until I was driving further out the road after visiting the waterfall.
The falls are beautiful and I’d say that after a good rainfall they’re probably even more impressive. The path to the falls was quite water logged in places on the day I was there so it’s a good idea to wear wellies or boots.

The Field
I didn’t realise until I’d gotten home that the Aasleagh falls featured in ‘The Field’, but, looking at the photos, the location is fairly recognisable.

The Aasleagh Falls is definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. There were three fishermen fishing, one from the top of the falls, on the day I was there, and it’s also a perfect place for a picnic.
